Block or Informational Messages

Messages may appear at the top of a page after first retrieving a patron, copy, or item record. They may contain block conditions or information about the patron, copy, or item that requires attention, or a note.

Block conditions

(not applicable to Media Manager sites)

A block condition occurs whenever a patron reaches one of the limits for his patron type. During a patron's transaction, Destiny alerts you with a message that begins with "[Action] Blocked:" and lists the limit(s) reached.

You must address the block condition or override it before continuing with the transaction. Only users with one of the following permissions in their Access Level can dismiss the message and proceed with the transaction:

Override library blocks

Override textbook blocks

Override asset blocks

Informational messages

An informational message about a patron may include ready holds they need to pick up, any overdue checkouts, or fines that require attention. For a copy or an item, it may include information about an existing conflict.

For example, the copy may be checked out to some other patron, it may have a hold on it, or it may have been marked Lost.

Informational messages do not require overriding.

Addressing the issues

To address patron issues, switch to Holds/ILL, Fines, Bookings, or Patron Status. Destiny retains the current patron information whenever you switch between Check Out, Renew, Holds/ILL, Fines, and Patron Status or, at district media centers, between Bookings and Patron Status.

To address copy issues, switch to the Copy Status page and retrieve the copy.

To address item issues, switch to the Asset Status page and retrieve the copy.

To change an important note into a regular one, clear the flag by clicking . (Not available in Asset Manager)
Regular notes only appear on the Patron Status, Copy Status, or Asset Status page.

To delete any notes, switch to the Patron Status, Copy Status, or Asset Status page.
